Members of the Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, are passionate about educating the youth of America and contributing to schools and student programs in a variety of ways, including:

  • Providing grants and awards to outstanding teachers and students.

  • Promoting education and citizenship through youth programs such as Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), DAR Good Citizens, and Junior American Citizens (JAC).

  • Supporting Kate Duncan Smith DAR School through chapter and member donations.​

  • Providing funds to Bacone College, an American Indian school in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

  • Sponsoring American History essay contests for youth in grades five through eight and high school.

On August 8, 2023, chapter members prepared USA Flag Booklets, Survival Kits and Goody Bags for teachers of over 900 students in Williamsburg/James City County first-grade classes and prepared other materials  for September classroom visits.

The Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, encourages public, private, and home school students to participate in the annual Junior American Citizens Art and Creative Expression Contest.   In 2023, 234 students submitted entries with 8 receiving national awards: five 1st place, one 2nd place, one Honorable Mention and one Community Service Group Award.

During 2024 National Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-10), gifts were presented to forty-three DAR WJCC First-Grade Citizenship Partners.

 

Our annual $500 Teacher Mini-Grant was awarded in December 2023 to a  Williamsburg James City County Schools first grade teacher.
